Etched Cinnabar Crystal on Dolomite and Quartz from Chatian Mine, Xiangxi, Hunan, China

An etched cinnabar twin sitting on a matrix of white, druzy rhombohedral dolomite crystals from the Niudouping Hg deposit at Chatian mining area, Hunan, China.
This is a recent find in 2020 by the locals. The Niudouping mine produces some of the best cinnabar crystals in the world. However, the mine has long been officially closed by the local government. Nevertheless, local villagers were still able to dig their way into the closed tunnels and got some nice specimens out in small quantity every now and then.
