This is a shell of Monetaria caputserpentis (Linnaeus, 1758) found in the Izu Oshima Island, Japan (Link to [A102041] to see the original apparence of this species). Monetaria caputserpentis, common name the “serpent’s-head cowry” or “snakehead cowry”, is a type of sea snail known as the “cowries”, a marine gastropod mollusk in the family Cypraeidae.
